Jones ready to clip Swans´ wings

Cardiff City striker Kenwyne Jones is determined to cap off a miserable week for Swansea City by securing a derby victory on Saturday.

Swansea sacked manager Michael Laudrup on Tuesday after they slumped to a sixth defeat in their last eight Premier League matches.

Long-serving defender Garry Monk has stepped in as caretaker boss and faces a baptism of fire in the Welsh derby at the Liberty Stadium.

Swansea lost 1-0 at second-bottom Cardiff back in November and, despite being seven places above their arch-rivals in the table, just three points separate the two sides.

Jones, a recent signing from Stoke City, scored the winner as his new side beat Norwich City on his debut last weekend and the former Southampton forward has set his sights on further endearing himse…

Khedira eyeing Ozil reunion at Arsenal

that Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira would jump at the chance to sign for Arsenal.

The Gunners puled off a major coup by bringing Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid on transfer deadline day, and they have recently been linked with a move for Sami Khedira.

The experienced midfielder publicly stated he was disappointed to see his close friend Ozil leave Santiago Bernabeu, and he is reportedly keen to follow him to the Emirates.

With Luka Modric proving his worth and Asier Illarramendi arriving this summer, los Blancos might be willing to negotiate another deal with the North London club.

Arsene Wenger signed Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer from AC Milan to try and add more steel to the centre of the park, but he is believed to be keen on Khedira as well.<…

Inter must live on the edge to win, says jubilant Spalletti

Luciano Spalletti says Inter are a side that must live on the edge to succeed after Marcelo Brozovic s stoppage-time stunner clinched a 1-0 win over Sampdoria.

In a dramatic Serie A encounter at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, it was Brozovic who had the final say with a crisp finish in the 94th minute.

Earlier drama had come courtesy of the VAR, which disallowed Radja Nainggolan s first-half effort before ruling out Kwadwo Asamoah s thumping strike in the 88th minute, then Gregoire Defrel s attempt at the other end a moment later.

But, in similar fashion to Matias Vecino s last-gasp winner against Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday, Brozovic stepped up to secure a much-needed triumph, and Inter boss Spalletti who was sent off for an overzealous celebration in…

Ronaldo carried Madrid on this back – Mendes slams ´shameful´ UEFA award snub

Cristiano Ronaldo s agent Jorge Mendes described the decision to award Luka Modric the 2017-18 Player of the Year gong as ridiculous and shameful after the five-time Ballon d Or winner was overlooked by UEFA.

Ronaldo scored 15 goals to lead Madrid to a third successive Champions League crown last season, however, the former Madrid superstar was beaten to the honour by Modric in Monaco on Thursday.

Madrid midfielder Modric won the most votes from coaches and journalists but Mendes was scathing of UEFA after Ronaldo – who swapped the European champions for Juventus in the off-season – was snubbed.

Football is played on the field and that s where Cristiano won, Mendes told Portuguese outlet Record.

He scored 15 goals, carried Real Madrid on his back an…

Juventus to target Koopmeiners?

According to Italian outlet , Juventus will make a move for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners at the end of the season, having already received an early encouragement from the player himself.

The 25-year-old was a target for Napoli last summer, but the reigning Serie A champions had their advances turned down, and Koopmeiners recently signed a new contract which makes him a La Dea player until the summer of 2027. The club have an option to extend that deal by a further year.

But even though Atalanta do not need to sell any of their prized assets, Koopmeiners is apparently keen on taking the next step in his career, and Juventus, though facing strong competition from the Premier League, are put in a very strong position by the player s desire to remain in Italy, rathe…

Klopp spares Salah after Liverpool´s ´wild ride´ at Brentford

Jurgen Klopp said Liverpool s wild ride in the 3-3 draw at Brentford highlighted defensive shortcomings as he pardoned Mohamed Salah for missing a glorious late chance.

The visitors were 3-2 ahead in the 77th minute when Salah was presented by Sadio Mane with a one-on-one chance against Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

The Egyptian striker, who earlier in the game reached 100 Premier League goals for Liverpool, this time shot a foot too high, just clearing the crossbar.

Klopp s fellow German Vitaly Janelt, playing in front of national team boss Hansi Flick, took advantage by scoring an equaliser five minutes later.

These things happen. It s brilliant football. Mo scores usually in these situations, today not, but there s absolutely nothing to say abo…

Coman and Costa far from matching Robben and Ribery – Guardiola

Pep Guardiola declared Kingsley Coman and Douglas Costa have their work cut out to reach the level shown by Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery at Bayern Munich.

Coman arrived at the Allianz Arena on loan – with the option of a permanent transfer – from Juventus in August, while Costa was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk in June.

The pair made impressive starts at Bayern, with the 19-year-old scoring twice in four Bundesliga appearances and the Brazilian supplying five top-flight assists in eight outings.

But Guardiola still feels the duo have a long way to go in order to match the quality of established wingers Robben and Ribery, who were part of Bayern s treble-winning side in 2012-13.

Coman and Douglas Costa must eat a lot of soup if they are to reach t…
