Following scans, Bayern announced De Ligt had suffered a partial ligament tear in his right knee, which could see him face a lengthy rehabilitation.

Euro 2012 Group A: Turkey up to third

Turkey’s Euro 2012 qualifying campaign is back on track following a 2-1 home win over Austria.

Goals from Arda Turan and Gokhan Gonul were enough to ensure victory for Guus Hiddink’s men.

The result sees Austria relinquish third spot in Group A to their opponents, which is being dominated by heavyweights Germany, who recently romped to a 4-1 victory over Kazahkstan.

Galatasaray midfielder Turan gaveTurkey the lead after beating two defenders before he placed the ball past Austria goalkeeper Jurgen Macho.

The Turks doubled their lead through Gokhan, and had their glovesman, Volkan Demirel, to thank for saving a Stefan Maierhofer penalty in the 84th minute.

The group’s other match saw Belgium record a resounding 4-1 victory over Azerbaijan.

Premier League 2016-17 fixtures: Tottenham

After a late-season collapse saw them slip from Premier League title contention to third place last season, Tottenham will not be buoyed by another tough finish being scheduled for the new campaign.

Spurs play champions Leicester City, London rivals Arsenal and West Ham, and also face a game against Manchester United in four of the last five weeks of the season prior to them rounding off the campaign versus Hull City.

Tottenham s start to the new term is far from easy either, with an away game against Everton to kick off on August 13 and a home meeting with Liverpool on August 27.

As well as their late-season derby clash with runners-up Arsenal on April 29, Spurs are away to the Gunners on November 5.

Euro 2012 qualifying: Liechtenstein 0 Scotland 1

Scotland s bid to reach the Euro 2012 qualifying playoffs will go down to their final match following a 1-0 victory away to Liechtenstein.

Craig Mackail-Smith s goal in the 32nd minute at the Rheinpark Stadion secured victory for Scotland, who are now second in Group I.

The Czech Republic are one point behind in third place after they lost 2-0 to group winners Spain on Friday.

But while the Czech Republic will be quietly confident of gaining a positive result from their last match away to Lithuania, Scotland must aim to take something from a daunting visit to world and European champions Spain.

To make the task harder for Craig Levein s side, if the Czech Republic are held by Lithuania and Scotland lose, the former will progress to the two-leg playoff ro…

Ricardo Gareca Deserves Huge Credit For Peru’s 2018 World Cup Berth

Peru became the 23nd and final team to clinch a berth in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. They accomplished that feat after defeating New Zealand 2-0 on the aggregate score in the FIFA Intercontinental World Cup Playoff Round. They did this despite missing Paolo Guerrero. The team s star striker missed the tie against the OFC representative since he is currently suspended for an ongoing doping investigation that could force him to miss the tournament next year.

But let s get back to the qualifying run for Peru. There is no question the team enjoyed a decent run in the CONMEBOL Qualifying stage, as they finished in fifth place ahead of teams such as Chile, Paraguay, and Ecuador. And while New Zealand was an inferior opponent, there was no doubt defeating them was not an easy task. But P…

Nagelsmann´s focus on Musiala, not Yamal ahead of Spain clash

Julian Nagelsmann explained his preparations for Germany s quarter-final clash with Spain revolved around Jamal Musiala, not Lamine Yamal.

Yamal, who became only the third teenager to provide multiple assists at the European Championships after Enzo Scifo (1984) and Cristiano Ronaldo (2004), has been a shining light for La Roja at the tournament.

The 16-year-old has also completed 94% of his passes under pressure, the highest rate of any Spain player to play at least 180 minutes so far at Euro 2024.

However, Musiala has also shone in his second major international tournament and is currently the joint-top scorer heading into the quarter-final stage.

My focus is less on Yamal and more on Jamal. Attacking-wise we can do a lot of things ourselves, Nagels…

Alexander-Arnold to miss Euro 2020 with thigh injury

Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Euro 2020 after suffering a thigh injury against Austria on Wednesday, England have confirmed.

The Liverpool full-back was the subject of much media speculation ahead of Gareth Southgate s decision to cut his preliminary squad to a selection of 26 earlier this week.

Alexander-Arnold was picked, however, along with three other players capable of playing right-back in Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier.

However, as fate would have it, the 22-year-old will miss out after all, having gone off injured late on in the 1-0 win over Austria after clearing the ball.

Gutted for you, .

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

De Gea considers retirement

At the age of just 32, former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will consider the possibility of retiring from playing football professionally unless he s given a No. 1 role at a major club, according to .

De Gea rose through the youth ranks at Atletico Madrid and earned first-team promotion there in d2009. In 2011, he joined Manchester United and remained the last man in the club to have lifted the Premier League trophy in 2012/13, the last season with Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford dugout, United s 20th and last league title to date.

In the years gone since, the Spanish shot-stopper was often the best player at the club, which doesn t say a lot of good about the United teams he s played in under Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf …

No integrity concerns at Euro 2016, says UEFA

Euro 2016 passed without a single concern over match-fixing or irregular betting, UEFA has said.

European football s governing body introduced a series of integrity measures prior to the tournament in France to curb any concerns.

Match officials were given guidance at a preparatory workshop before the finals to help them to deal with potential problems, including any approach from individuals attempting to fix matches.

The 24 participating nations were given a similar presentation prior to travelling to France, while UEFA s own Betting Fraud Detection System monitored bets placed on matches to check for irregularities.

UEFA has described the measures as an unqualified success , stating that no integrity concerns arose at any of the 51 matches at the tourn…

Euro 2020 data dive: Experienced Belgium eliminate holders Portugal, Czech Republic stun dismal Neth

Belgium and the Czech Republic booked their spots in the last eight of Euro 2020 on Sunday.

The Red Devils starting XI against Portugal had an average age of 30 years and 148 days – the oldest named by any of the remaining teams in the competition – and that experience seemingly paid off as they produced a stubborn display to edge past Cristiano Ronaldo and Co. 1-0.

In the other game, the Czech Republic took full advantage of Matthijs de Ligt s red card early in the second half to seal a shock 2-0 win over the Netherlands.
